Industrial concrete flooring experts, Concrete Laser Flooring (CLF) were awarded the contract to supply and place the concrete floor at the brand-new Indoor Cricket Facility at Chris Hani Secondary School in Khayelitsha. This was a project undertaken and managed by the Gary Kirsten Foundation and forms part of the ‘GKF Centre of Cricket Excellence’.
The CLF team got to work with the inspiring teams from Gary Kirsten Foundation, Cousins Steel, Turf Tech, the school management team and Gerhard van den Berg on this project.
The Floor
As the first step, CLF managed the preparation of the earthworks by removing the existing sand and vegetation and stockpiling it on the east end of the field to act as a bank. Once the sub-base was compacted and tested, the area was ready for the concrete to be placed.
Shutters were erected in line with the design (design provided by CLF), and all levels were checked. The concrete then arrived and under the watchful eye of the camera filming team, the concrete (professionally supplied by Megamix) was placed.
Once placed, the team then floated and cured the concrete, before cutting the saw-cuts the next morning.
The floor was then handed over to Cousins Steel, who followed with the erection of the necessary steel work, subsequent to the correct curing time.
